Stylus Magazine gave it a B− and stated, "I’m definitely recommending Unplugged-with reservations, but it’s still a recommendation-but damn, I just wish the fun Keys seems to have on stage would translate more clearly to record." Click the OK button, and you’re done.īack in Photoshop, add a new layer filled with color, or composite the image into your background. I almost always use New Layer with Layer Mask. And then decide how you want the final image output. The Decontaminate Colors checkbox replaces any color fringing with the color of fully selected nearby pixels. I used a low setting for all of these in hopes of preserving as much of the dogs’ fur as possible.įinally, use the Output Settings subpanel as you did in Refine Edge. The Global Refinements subpanel includes sliders for smoothing, feathering, contrast, and shifting the edge in or out. Once your mask edge is looking good, it’s time to make refinements to the edge. Using the Brush tool in Select and Mask you clean up any other problems you see when you place the image on another background, zoom in, and navigate around. Pressing the opt/alt key with Quick Selection active switches from adding to the selection to subtracting from the selection. I used the Quick Selection to roughly outline the dogs. Use the appropriate selection tool to make a selection. One of the advantages of the Select and Mask taskspace is having these tools readily available together. Within the Select and Mask taskspace there are several familiar Photoshop selection tools available: Quick Selection (the topmost icon) as well as the Lasso and Polygonal Lasso tools nested together in the fourth icon down. There are a number of ways to open the Select and Mask taskspace: choose Select > Select and Mask… select any selection tool and click the Select and Mask… button in the Options bar if there is a layer mask on the layer, click Select and Mask… in the Properties panel of the layer mask or, press cmd+opt+R (Mac) or ctrl+alt+R (Windows). While there are a number of ways to open Select and Mask, whenever a selection tool is selected, the Select and Mask button is available in the toolbar. With each new tool or set of tools that Adobe introduces, particularly if we lose a tool with which we are familiar, there are bound to be issues. So let’s take a look at how we should be using Select and Mask before forming any conclusions. Select and Mask is designed to provide “the same functionality as Refine Edge in a streamlined way,” according to Adobe. The major new feature, Select and Mask, is introduced as the replacement for the Refine Edge panel. Other changes in the 2017 release, such as the new search panel (cmd/ctrl+F), the design and Adobe Stock templates, support for SVG Open Type fonts, and new Creative Cloud Libraries capabilities seem more aimed for new users and designers. (Don’t worry, I have a solution for you.) The other addition, which can be quite useful, is the ability to adjust each eye independently when using Liquify > Face-Aware Liquify > Eyes. And one of these, Select and Mask, discussed in detail in the tutorial below, has become the subject of considerable controversy. Only two additions in the new release are truly important for photographers familiar with Photoshop. With the Photoshop CC 2017 release, both camps seem to have found something to discuss. Photographers with the Creative Cloud subscription for Adobe Photoshop anticipate, and sometimes dread, the big new-name version releases that Adobe engineers have prepared. ![]() The performances are the best part of the film, and I’m mostly talking about the animal talent. Every subsequent attempt just brings back diminishing returns and makes it more and more obvious just how desperately Hallström wants our tears, and he will kill as many puppies as he has to just to satiate his thirst. Hallström’s manipulation is pardonable at the beginning because there is a good amount of groundwork leading up to it. Unfortunately, the more lives we visit, the more hackneyed and rush the approach feels, cheapening any goodwill the viewer may have developed up to that point. The initial story (which is later revisited) takes it’s time developing the relationship between boy and pup, which then makes the emotional climax at the end of that story the most powerful part of the film. Hallström approaches this film with the same formulaic technique that you would find in your run-of-the-mill Hallmark film, and surprisingly it works, if only the first time. The entire film is centered around his lives, but only in so much as it builds up to their inevitable end. It won’t come as a surprise to you, but our cinema canine has to die multiple times in order to be reincarnated. Where director Lasse Hallström fails the film is in the pacing and forcing of emotions. The film does a great job highlighting diversity in the representation of his owners and pays great attention to detail in the recreation of the time period’s aesthetic. While Bailey is facing this philosophical crisis, we see him as a different dog in multiple lives, none all of which are great and a few result in an early death. Bailey’s existentialist journey is a contagious one that will most likely have you leaving the theater re-evaluating whether our imposed slavery on these animals is really what is best for them. At the same time, almost everything bad that has ever happened to him was because of humans. It takes innumerable lifetimes and dog years for the dog to come to the conclusion that maybe his purpose is dependant on humans. The problem with a dog continuously facing an existential crisis is that it presents all the evidence suggesting that maybe we are the problem. ![]() Bruce Cameron, all in the doghouse for this melodramatic fiasco. In this case, that would put screenplay writers Catherine Michon, Audrey Wells, Maya Forbes, Wally Wolodarsky, and screenplay writer and novelist W. A cat person would offer the explanation that dogs are inherently dumb, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and blame lazy script writing. The weirder part is that the dog remembers all of its memories and experiences from its past lives, but for some reason does not utilize them. In the end, A Dog’s Purpose is a toothless statement on animal companionship proving that this film’s bark is much more interesting than its bite.Ī Dog’s Purpose spends the film in the simple mindset of a dog who continues to be reincarnated every time it dies. This imitation leaves the film feeling watered-down and without any edge. Where both of these films create genuine emotion that works in harmony every other aspect of the film, A Dog’s Purpose attempts to force the sentiment, turning this dog film into a pale copycat. Both films show two extremes of storytelling where the execution transcends the amount of time it takes to deliver that emotional gut-punch. ![]() I cried at the beginning of UP and at the end of Marley & Me. ![]() As you probably gathered by now, I am extremely impressed, so thank you for a fine piece of software that is a joy to use. From a functionality viewpoint your software does everything that Acrobat/Bluebeam does but is far simpler and much easier to navigate/operate – I’ve not found any limitations yet. PDF Studio Pro runs seamlessly on my Mac and I’m finding the interface/menus intuitive, logical and extremely easy to use. I’m an architect and use Acrobat Pro at work on a daily basis but I have to say that your software absolutely blows it out of the water! I have also used Bluebeam PDF software extensively on my previous Windows machine and again PDF Studio outshines it and is in my opinion, much better value for money. I just purchased PDF Studio Pro for personal use after spending a couple of days extensively trailing a whole bunch of other similar software. So much software is offered without a user guide, depending on a “knowledge base” to help people learn. I’m also impressed with your online user guide, as well as the multi-platform support. I just want to say how pleased I was to see how much substance you put into your software. If garbage is present then no software can provide a '100' export. Acrobat 9 Standard and Adobe Reader 9 cannot export PDF page content. I've done it with a fair measure of frequency. Both can and do export at '100' when that is present 'in' the PDF. ![]()
